"Am I holding bourbon, or mud?"
Sigma looked up from the chessboard, raising an eyebrow at the helmet across the board. One red eye glowed brightly out of Vile's visor, but his attention wasn't on the leader of the Mavericks. The heavily armed psychopath was focused on his glass, twirling it in his hand. Ice, expensive whiskey, and the out of place staw spun as he did so, and Sigma sat up. "Are you calling into question my stock?" A smile tugged at the edge of his lips, as he poured more into his glass. "You're the one who asked for bourbon."
"Not what I meant at all." A chuckle escaped Vile's helmet. "Parmenides. The way of truth, and th

Awakening - Chapter 1: Bleeding Out
"The term reploid has evolved quickly since the rise of our race. Officially, the origin of the term is the designation REPLI, an acronym standing for Represent Enormous Potential for Life and Intelligence.
The more common belief is that it stands for replicated, or replication, that we reploids are reproductions of the original Light Labs type-III neural architecture X possesses. The term is suggestive and paints our race as knock-offs, mere copies of one individual, and while Xavier Light is a dear colleague whom I respect greatly, this is unacceptable. It supports the notion of reploids as replaceable consumer goods. The more this concept
What were the past and future if there was no time?
The entity had no past or future. It had no concept of time or space, only an ephemeral and nondescript sense of self, a vague awareness that it was. It was a blind existence, with no concept of how long it had been, but time and space slowly intruded on the entity's innocent ignorance, and its self expanded.
It had a name, and a past. It felt like an eternity, but slowly the entity remembered. Its name was Xavier- no, most people called it- him, rather, X. He was called Megaman X.
Awareness of so many things came crashing down on him. Reploids, intelligent artificial life. (The new manki

Ultima Online IPY - Acantha Notus's Introduction
Waking up in the barest hours of what passed for dawn at her desk, the imprint of a book binding on her forehead, her dark brown ponytail fallen to the forces of entropy and left a haphazard mess. Reaching for a tea-infused cup of acorn coffee, only to find she drank it all studying last night. Slipping out in the mists surrounding her dormitory to the central commissary to get more. Anything to keep her awake and at her studies.
This had been Acantha Notus's life for the past two weeks, and through it all she felt simply... numb. Not even the blasted landscape surrounding the Order's stronghold, the land that had once been called Yew befo

"DAMN IT, THAI!" Patrick threw back his hood, almost knocking his cigarette out of his mouth. "What!? What inane bullshit are you going to waste my time with now!?"
"I was at the rest station a while back, that nice place on Albert street, and this beautiful Asian woman sat across from me in this short, short skirt..."
Patrick got the feeling he would need a drink after this.

Heretic! Aspatria - Verse One
In a jacket covered with stains, smelling of booze with an unlit cigarette hanging from his mouth, Patrick Cothraige felt like an outsider. The giant of a man looked out of place in the ornate, shining rectory. His unkempt grey-steaked black hair and stubble was looked at with disdain by the priests in the room, his casual slouch standing opposite their tense adherence to propriety. No one would have guessed him a priest of their order, one of the many enforcers of the Church's will. What struck the array of annoyed Brothers most was that he outranked them, no matter how the Father's behavior struck them as inappropriate, they could do nothi
"So, this is it..."
The four teens looked up at the growing frog, sparing no thoughts for the fifth member of their team stuffing spilled sun shaped candies into his pockets. "We won," Elise whispered, still dizzy after almost falling against the Black King. She clutched her side, wincing as she touched the spot where she had been stabbed.
Peter and David noticed at the same time, as usual for the twins. "Look!" Peter cried, pointing at Slick's unexpected halo growing rapidly.
Carly's horror was the greatest. She knew the planet rapidly approaching intimately. The Land of Fire and Frogs was her world, but its surface was even more hell

Akane yawned as she sat up, stretching. She squinted as the noon sun glared down at her, taking a moment to confirm that it was, indeed, noon. For her, life in Gensokyo may as well have been like this forever. In her sixteen years of life, this was how things had always been, and she had never really cared to wrap her mind around the history of what came before her and the thousand year gap between the Gensokyo she knew and the first. There were, of course, some youkai old enough to remember the old Gensokyo.
